Reap rewards with some smart shopping this holiday season

[Monday, December 20th, 2010]

According to a recent survey, the average shopper is expected to shop less than 700 dollars this holiday season. It would be really nice if you could get back some of that money spent. You can use your credit card smartly, pay your bills off quickly to not incur any extra interest and make most of a pool of rewards that are on their way from credit cards this holiday season. Card issuers are trying to push the incentives off late, which means customers can save that extra 50 or even 100 dollars this season.

If you are planning to spend hundreds of dollars this season, you must try to get some of that back through cash back offers. There are two specific cards which are offering hefty cash back bonuses if you cross a stipulated spending level. One of these cards is the Chase Freedom Visa which will give you 100 dollars back if you spend 799 dollars in the first three months after getting the card. The Discover More will give back 100 dollars if you spend just 500 dollars in the first 3 months. At any other time of the year, it might be hard to touch these amounts, but with holiday purchases, it wouldn’t be so difficult to reach the mark. More importantly you will get a new card with a good incentive.

There are new trends in the credit card industry as well. This includes extra cash back in some categories. Sometimes these cash backs are rotated and are provided by the card issuers while sometimes customers can choose for themselves. These extra cash backs could include discounts at drug stores, grocery stores, gas stations or even departmental stores. It is worth checking out because you may be able to save a few extra dollars in the categories where you plan to shop. It is not a bad choice for example, to get some additional saving on your shopping bill from the local departmental store.

It is not a bad idea to spend less just like it is a good idea to use cash back to pay off some bills. If you have accrued quite a few points from your spending throughout the year, it might be time to use those points for a change. Many cards will let you use them in the online marketplace for buying gifts or gift cards, while some will even allow you to get cash back.
